Indeed, by going from 1:4.6.1-8 to 1:4.6.2~pre1-1 the "scrollbars" have disappeared, and with them the rendering bug has gone too (it was still there in 1:4.6.1-8). I don't know what these "scrollbars" were for, don't see a way to switch them back on, but in any case I neither need nor want them. So this bug is indeed resolved for my purposes.
