If you still haven't fixed your fontconfig settings, please try the following package: http://sgolovan.nes.ru/debian-tcltk/8.5.1/tk8.5_8.5.1-1.1_amd64.deb I've slightly changed font-choosing strategy. Instead of trying only one font (which fits best) this patched Tk tries several matches untill success (but still fails if no usable fonts are found). The patch is attached. If it works I'll ask upstream to review it. -- Sergei Golovan
