Although the suggested solution with bluetooth appears to work without
further issues, there are still issues with regards to controlling the
WWAN card. It is still fully functional, but it is not possible to turn
it off the way it was done previously; as neither the suggested
"/sys/devices/platform/thinkpad_acpi/wwan_enable", the legacy
"/proc/acpi/ibm/wan" or anything resembling it appear to exist.
For further reference, there does appear to be a workaround to disable
the radio in the modem:
echo at+cfun=0 > /dev/ttyUSB0 (replace with first USB TTY of your modem)
turns off the radio.
