<snip /> I am not the package maintainer, but one of the upstream maintainers, so I might be on the wrong track. Based on Thomas' comments on bug #298574 and #117484 I think there is some desire to make the phpGW install process better at handling databases, but it also appears that this won't happen for sarge. As our debs in woody are rather broke, I would prefer to see some upstream fixes go into sarge, but the rest remain as is. One thing to keep in mind is that phpgw depends on access to a database, it can be mysql or pgsql and be on a local or remote host. This does make it difficult for package dependencies and install scripts.
