I meant that it should be possible for file associations created by
Windows applications (to open documents that they support) to be
exported to file managers (probably after user confirmation).

Thanks, that fixes this problem. Sadly, winepath has no manpage (I could
file a separate bug report on that),

Sorry, my bad. I meant the mailcap / mimeinfo system for associating
applications with document types, see above.
