I am not sure it is necessary to do this. At any rate, The following packages depend on suitesparse: python-scipy, openoffice.org-calc, octave3.0, octave2.9, lp-solve, and libpetsc2.3.3. The octave2.9 package will be dropped from sid/testing and the Debian Octave Group is already taking care of octave3.0. We must check whether the other packages would be affected by this g77 -> gfortran switch.
