Hi, The real bug is that you should use the version specific pg_config in /usr/lib/postgresql/8.3/bin/pg_config. Server-side packages can easily build extensions for multiple major versions (such as 8.2 and 8.3 ATM), and pgxs isn't supported for client-side only builds (which will use /usr/bin/pg_config).
