I think this is actually a guile upgrade bug, because everyone who's had this problem sees it go away when they reinstall guile.
I had done that before but for the sake of experimentation I tried again. Now, I assume you meant do an "apt-get remove" so I tried the following with no success:

I removed the guile related packages from the package cache so it re-downloads them.
Then I reinstalled guile...

When I re-run gnucash I get the same problems with guile. Do I have the right versions of everything? I checked the guile* package versions against those listed at packages.debian.org and they are identical.
Did I follow the right process or am I missing something?
