Hi,

Thanks for responding so promptly!

(I'm just guessing which email addresses I'm supposed to be sending this
to. Let me know if I guessed wrong.)

Since I knew to look in /usr/local, I strace'd meld for any file
accesses in there.

It looks like part of PyGtkGLExt was causing my problems. Even after it
was uninstalled, it left empty folders
in /usr/local/lib/python2.3/site-packages/gtk-2.0/. Once I deleted
them, meld (and the others) works fine.

(I guess no more OpenGL from PyGTK for me. Oh well.)

So go ahead and close this, because it isn't technically Debian's fault.
(Though it is a really strange-looking bug. I wonder if it wouldn't be
possible to print a more informative error message.)

Thanks for the pointers, though! You made my day. :-)

- Ken
