reopen 392160 submitter ! kthxbyegiflib 4.1.6-2 may replace libungif4g, but it also conflicts with it, preventing them from being co-installable. They must be co-installable because most (if not all) packages have a versioned dependency on libungif4g, and so the provides of giflib is not sufficient.
This means that as a practical matter, libgif4 is uninstallable in any case where you'd want it to be installed.
This can be fixed if you make libungif4g a dummy package that depends on libgif4, or if you remove the conflicts from both packages.
