I've seen something similar with DVB.

If it's the same problem, you should see (if you have amarok running
verbosely) some lines emitted by the ALSA output plugin - the first problem
line contains (paraphrased) "pause call failed (file descriptor in bad
state)" and it is followed by many "drain call failed (resource temporarily
unavailable)" lines; and changeset 1867fae81291 is either the cause or it is
exposing a bug elsewhere.
