I know that working on initial packaging is not really what one has to do the most, but it might be nice to be able to check as much items on the source package before even trying to build it. I for one tend to reach a quite clean source package before putting it into $VCS (instead of committing blindly dh_make template, or copies of existing packages's debian/ directory), and then tweak whatever is needed for the binary to be usable and policy-compliant. I guess some other checks might be run on the source packages as well. Thanks for considering.
