Why does video player > application try to manage my wallpaper?! Hi, It looks like this is because the multimedia-keys plugins starts gnome-settings-daemon which is setting the wallpaper in GNOME. You can work around this by disabling this plugin (it lives in /usr/lib/totem/plugins/media-player-keys). I'm guessing either deleting/moving the files or editing media-player-keys.totem-plugin would do the trick.
