I'd prefer the principle of minimal change in order not to break setups that rely on Path: being present.

Frankly speaking, if users set a silly hostname, they deserve to suffer.
I am trying to educate them, that's what README-FQDN* files are for, and I'm happy to improve documentation. I'm not so fond of making major code changes to leafnode-1 without good reason however.

I've also considered not making this change at all and just shift the blame on the "offending" DFN server...
