I'm not sure it is all that easy to have the package do this change automatically looking at the database version available. At the very least, I think it could be possible to warn the user if he is upgrading from a Snort version which used an older (and incompatible schema). Thanks for the additional info regarding the MySQL changes. I will try to improve the database documentation and, maybe, add a NEWS.Debian item for the next package release. Regards Javier
