"libnl1-pre8 version 1.0~pre8-1 is installed and the header files of libnl states that they have this function." Indeed it was installed. Sadly there was also some old cruft aka libnl1-pre6 installed in /lib which was found first. Grrr, I hate it when such things happen. I really should not install stuff next to the package system.
