When I load sawfish the computer beeps and displays the message "File error: no such file or directory, debian-menu" on the console. When X is fully loaded, the debian menus are indeed unavailable in the desktop middle-click menu.

Please install the menu package. This has historically been just a
Suggests: and not a Recommends:, which is why you did not get it
installed by default. I'll think about upgrading it in a future upload.

Maybe the problem is in the menu package?  How can I check this?
