Nevermind, I just noticed that I had /proc/sys/vm/swappiness set to 0 which apparently was OK in 2.6.10, but triggers the OOM killer in 2.6.11. Leaving the swappiness value at the default 60 gives you a perfectly usable system. Please close this bug.
