This is probably because you configured your session to be in German.
You can do this by selecting the language in the login screen. There
could also be something about GDM which now reads /etc/profile and
~/.profile (this will probably be dropped in a future upload).

This is because of:

You need to upgrade it to the 2.20 version ; a missing conflict caused
gdm to be updated in testing before it should have.
