Bug#458702: Slowness reproducible on amd64/intel

This bug is reproducible on a dual-core amd64 machine with xserver-xorg-video-intel (945GM). Everything is very, very slow, and sometimes during the tutorial, the cogs, wheels, and other game play items (not buttons) disappear.

My card works for nexuiz, compiz, and every other 3D program I've tried with no problems. I have not tried sauerbraten. This is a fast machine, so I'm not sure why rendering is so slow. If you need any other information, please feel free to ask.
