Package: nfs-kernel-server Version: 1:1.0.6-3.1 Severity: normal Before anything else, I want to say that I've read the whole log of #81428. However, while my symptoms are similar, that bug is apparently related to exporting both a directory and a subdirectory, which is definitely not what I'm doing.
The situation is that I have a network of computers set up to automount part of each other's drives via NFS. Every so often, and I haven't been able to come up with conditions that reliably reproduce this, a computer (it's apparently random which one) will start failing with messages like this: May 3 14:23:05 node rpc.mountd: authenticated mount request from othernode:1020 for /var/local/bulk (/var/local/bulk) May 3 14:23:04 node rpc.mountd: getfh failed: Operation not permitted I can't think of anything at all unusual in my configuration that could be causing this. The root filesystem (where /var/local/bulk is) is just basic ext3 and I'm running the stock 2.6.8 kernel. /etc/exports looks like this: /var/local/bulk [ADDRESSES](secure,rw,root_squash,sync) ...which is why I say it can't be #81428; you can't export a parent and child simultaneously, even by accident, with only one export line.
