Okay, that explains why.

And that explains how to avoid it.  Fixed locally by altering
preferences.  Thanks.

This now becomes a wishlist item, something to the effect of
"automatic subtitle file detection should not default to
random-looking behavior for very short filenames".  Possibly just
avoiding automatic detection for such files would work, or
constraining the fuzzy-match more as the filename gets shorter.
