I experienced the same thing again copying the same url (http://emilator.wordpress.com/2007/10/20/mathematica-e-compiz-e-beryl/) from a tab of liferea to gedit. I've made different reboot: the system boots normally, but after the problem (and the power-off) it boots in a double time (also grub takes 10 seconds more); next reboots are normal. I'm using a reiserfs partition.
