Hi! You can use the png file, the desktop will uses it anyway. just don't use any extension at "Icon=" field. Example: "Icon=ggobi"
Check the latest patch from Ubuntu... http://patches.ubuntu.com/g/ggobi/ggobi_2.1.6-1ubuntu1.patch You can apply this one.. it's the better way when upstream doesn't provide hiresolution icons, so .xpm is fine.
