tags 435209 + patch stop Hello,
While I was looking at the sources of the new LabPlot version 1.6.0, that was recently released on 2007-12-17, I noticed that it fixes some issues that were reported in this bug report. I took this as opportunity to rewrite labplot's current debian/copyright file in the new machine-readable format that is outlined in http://wiki.debian.org/Proposals/CopyrightFormat. My rewritten copyright file is attached; the latest version of this file should always be available in my private LabPlot repository: http://git.debian.org/?p=users/fst/labplot.git;a=blob;f=debian/copyright;hb=HEAD On Monday 30 July 2007 05:27:53 Steven G. Upstream has updated the included netCDF copy to version 3.6.2. It's COPYRIGHT file now states that crediting UCAR/Unidata is not an obligation. > 2) Second, several files do not seem to be GPL-licensed, and their legal > status is unclear. > > audiofile/extended.c is listed as "Copyright (C) 1988-1991 Apple > Computer, Inc. Unfortunately, this is quite a sloppy legal license, and does > not explicitly grant the right to *sell* the software (required to be > DFSG-free) and not just "use" it. The audiofile sources have been removed from the 1.6.0 upstream tarball. > 3) Although the copyright file lists the code as GPL version 2 only, I > can find no such restriction in the source code. Right, I've updated this in my new debian/copyright file. Grüße, Frank

To acknowedge your terms explicily, how about augmenting the permission to read something like the following -- This software is derived from the Cephes Math Library. It is incorporated herein, and licensed in accordance with DFSG, by permission of the author. If you are trying to get me to suggest a specific form for your license, then from looking at Debian programs such as dpkg it seems to me that you would find the GPL to be appropriate and the permission statement could reference one of the GPL documents instead of DFSG. Alternatively, the packages you have been talking about distributing with Debian presumably come with some sort of licenses and it would make sense to propose those licenses.
