While I like the idea, I am unsure why it is better than just setting
VERBOSE directly when calling invoke-rc.d.  I mean, by using

  VERBOSE=no invoke-rc.d --quiet script

This way one can control the verbosity of the script independently
from invoke-rc.d.

Can you use this method instead of patching invoke-rc.d?
