Something is seriously wrong on your machine, my friend.

This means the postrm script didn't have the executable bit set, which
is extraordinarily unlikely in normal circumstances.

The new postrm script is (I guarantee) not a directory.

Try running memtest or one of the other hardwre checker programs on your
machine for a few hours - this smells of bad RAM to me.  Or is /tmp
full?  I am not sure that would cause the errors seen, but something
wierd is going on.
