Package: gnome-terminal Version: 2.18.3-1 When I use GNU Emacs in a Terminal window, the cursor is sometimes two characters wide and there are sometimes black boxes displayed instead of spaces. This doesn't happen using xterm. To reproduce the problem, I run emacs. Column number mode must be disabled. Once I press the space bar seven times, the cursor is two characters wide, in the seventh and eigth columns. If I enter a non-whitespace character while the cursor is visible (i.e. hasn't blinked away), the black box in the seventh column is still shown (e.g., " Ba" where "B" represents the black box and "a" is the character I entered).
