Like linux-image-2.6.22-3-amd64_2.6.22-6_amd64.deb before it,
linux-image-2.6.23-1-amd64_2.6.23-1_amd64.deb also has sound problems (sound
can be heard, but hum in speakers interferes with the quality of that sound)
for ASUS P5K-V g33/ich9 chipset. This chip is identified with lspci
as
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 02)
and by alsamixer as
Realtek ALC883
Since the upgrade from kernel-2.6.22 alsa driver to 2.6.23 alsa driver made
no improvement to the sound quality, I plan to take this issue upstream to
the alsa list and/or alsa bug reporting system. I plan to report back here
from time to time on the upstream response to this issue.
