Package: gdm Version: latest Severity: normal Tags: patch xbase-clients has been split and is just present as a transitional package. I went on to install a minimal system to check which of its components did gdm need, and found that gdm works fine without any of them.
In fact, when checking the changelog, it shows that this dependency was added as a workaround and nowadays is entirely bogus: * Add depends on xbase-clients until #242485 is fixed in X. (closes: #247065) Since this is now fixed (the fix for #242485 made it into sarge!), could you remove that dependency? -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-5-amd64 Locale: LANG=ca_AD.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ca_AD.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8)
