Package: collectd
Version: 3.10.4-1+b3
Severity: important

Hi,

some of collectd's plugins, most notably ntp, attempt to perform a
reverse lookup on some hosts, and use the result as the file name.

This has several disadvantages:

 - if the nameserver is unavailable, collectd blocks and stops recording
   data
 - if the lookup fails, the IP address is used instead, thus a new file
is created, and data diverted there
 - it creates unnecessary network traffic
 - if a rogue nameserver gave back a different response each time,
collectd would create a new rrd file every ten seconds, quickly
   filling up the harddisk

   Simon
