Package: collectd Version: 3.10.4-1+b3 Severity: important Hi,
some of collectd's plugins, most notably ntp, attempt to perform a reverse lookup on some hosts, and use the result as the file name. This has several disadvantages: - if the nameserver is unavailable, collectd blocks and stops recording data - if the lookup fails, the IP address is used instead, thus a new file is created, and data diverted there - it creates unnecessary network traffic - if a rogue nameserver gave back a different response each time, collectd would create a new rrd file every ten seconds, quickly filling up the harddisk Simon -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: powerpc (ppc) Kernel: Linux 2.6.21-rc4 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages collectd depends on: ii libc6 2.7-3 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii librrd2 1.2.19-1 Time-series data storage and displ collectd recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
