I will apply the last two points to the upstream securetty. For the first point, I don't think it can be applied upstream (shadow could be run on a old kernel). What I don't know is whether it would be really unrealistic to run a Debian system with a system supporting devfs. The only kernel requirement I know is from the glibc, but I think the libc still allows a 2.6.12 Linux kernel, which supports devfs. (Is this right?) If this is the case, I would prefer to just keep the deprecated tty, but adding a note. Are there other reason which would make devfs support impossible when the login package is installed?
