some people think that hiding files you can't access is a good thing.

i think it's OK, but doesn't really matter since you can't access the
file anyway, even if locate does let you find out where it is.


slocate's fast update is worthwhile, though - it keeps track of the
directory last-mod times and skips the update for files that haven't
changed since the last run.

if it was feasible, i'd probably make dlocate use slocate instead of
locate - but it isn't.
