Package: kic Version: 2.4a-1 Severity: wishlist -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Re: kic for Debian Date: Mon, 3 Dec 2007 09:53:15 -0800 (PST) From: Stephen R. Whiteley <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi Guerkan, As far as I am concerned, Kic is public domain, neither Whiteley Research Inc. or I reserve any proprietary rights to the program. However, this was originally written at Berkeley, so the Berkeley rights would still apply. The original file header is * Copyright -C- 1981 Kenneth H. Keller, Giles C. Billingsley * * KIC is a graphics editor that was developed by the integrated * circuits group of the Electronics Research Laboratory and the * Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences at * the University of California, Berkeley, California. The program * KIC is available free of charge to any interested party. * The sale, resale, or use of this program for profit without the * express written consent of the Department of Electrical Engineering * and Computer Sciences, University of California, Berkeley, California, * is forbidden. This would seem to limit commercial use. Unfortunately, I can't speak for Berkeley. Maybe you can contact someone at the Electronics Research Laboratory, Dept. of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, University of California, Berkeley to get a definitive answer to your question. Again, I personally don't have any objections and in fact encourage you to distribute Kic. Regards, Steve
Hello Steve I've packaged "kic" for Debian because some people wanted it. But because of the licesning it's only available in non-free. What do you think, do you plan to relicense it into something like either GNU GPL, BSD or Artistic License, or even make it Public Domain? Just for you to know: http://packages.debian.org/sid/kic Yours, Guerkan
