Hello,

I have tested other terms and have found that this problem might by
gnome-terminal related, since in xterm this problem disappeared.

By the way, in gnome-terminal the `character encoding' has been set to
UTF-8 and the dirs and files whose names are encoded in UTF-8 are
displayed correctly.
