If you want to stay absolutely current, rather than wait for something to make it to testing, I suggest using the debs at http://people.debian.org/~sgran I put debs there ususally within a few hours of uploading to unstable for both sarge and woody. As a side point, if you're not following unstable, there will always be time periods where there is a new upstream version of some piece of software that hasn't made it to testing yet, even in a perfect world.
