Then, i presume that the cdrecord backend (used to scan devices and burn data 
cd) works fine (with default empty or "ATA" TLI, not "ATAPI").

In fact, "Create Image" creates image (a file on harddisk) first, then simply 
runs "Burn CD" sequence. Have you got the file?

I don't understand clearly: is the original code shows you the same error 
output? Are you getting the same error even for SCSI bus (with default empty 
TLI)? If so, you probably should open another bug against cdrecord version 
detecting. This part of code isn't depends on TLI.
