I confirm everything said by the original reporter for 416571. My confirmation is for a newly installed debian testing version with fallback to debian unstable (as in this case) when a testing version of the package is not available. Hot keys worked well for older versions of wxvlc (e.g., the debian oldstable version of wxvlc I was running before). The possibilities I can imagine are (1) Newly introduced upstream bug? (2) Some problem with vlc from Debian unstable in an otherwise Debian testing environment. (3) Some change in build configuration for hotkeys that was not followed for this build? I think (1) is pretty unlikely; somebody should have immediately noticed such a bug since hot keys are a heavily used feature for media players. (2) is more likely; vlc is currently hung up in Debian unstable because of problems in the libraries it depends on. (At least that is what is stated at http://bjorn.haxx.se/debian/testing.pl?package=vlc .) Does the hot key functionality work on pure Debian unstable systems? If you confirm the bug exists for a pure Debian unstable system, then to my mind (3) becomes the most probable cause, and I hope you are going to carefully check this possibility in any case. Alan W.
