Apparently the patch is completely wrong: it turns out that there's no /dev/bus/usb/devices file by default - at least in Ubuntu.
It is part of the "Magic to make /proc/bus/usb work" (which is now commented by default in Ubuntu's /etc/init.d/mountdevsubfs.sh). The patch might be more difficult, because there does not appear to be an equivalent of the "devices" file in /dev/bus/usb.
