Could you please tell me which packages you've installed among those three:
libsox-fmt-alsa
libsox-fmt-ao (obviously, that one seems to be installed)
libsox-fmt-oss

Since libao seems to be the default, could you try to force alsa with
default device with "-t alsa default" e.g. "play /tmp/myogg.ogg -t
alsa default" (be careful, argument ordering is important)?
NB: hmmm... "-t alsa default" seems broken... let me have a deeper
look into this.

Also, using extra verbosity could help me finding the rootcause of the
problem, please add "-V4" to arguments.

In the meantime, i'll see with upstream in case your problem would ring a bell.
