Hello Kevin, thank you for your bugreport. Could you please tell me which packages you've installed among those three: libsox-fmt-alsa libsox-fmt-ao (obviously, that one seems to be installed) libsox-fmt-oss
Since libao seems to be the default, could you try to force alsa with default device with "-t alsa default" e.g. "play /tmp/myogg.ogg -t alsa default" (be careful, argument ordering is important)? NB: hmmm... "-t alsa default" seems broken... let me have a deeper look into this. Also, using extra verbosity could help me finding the rootcause of the problem, please add "-V4" to arguments. In the meantime, i'll see with upstream in case your problem would ring a bell. thanks, -Pascal On Nov 10, 2007 6:07 PM, Kevin Baradon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Package: sox > Version: 14.0.0-5 > Severity: important > > sox useds to work fine on my computer (I use it as notification sound player > in KDE instead of Arts). > > Since (at least) last upgrade, sounds doesn't play anymore: > > [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ play /usr/share/sounds/KDE_Beep_Ahem.wav > ALSA snd_pcm_hw_params_set_format error: Invalid argument > play ao: Could not open default device: error 5 > play soxio: Failed writing `default': > > > If I try to switch to OSS driver in libao: > > [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ play /usr/share/sounds/KDE_Beep_Ahem.wav > libao - Unsupported number of bits: 32.play ao: Could not open default > device: error 5 > play soxio: Failed writing `default': > > > /usr/share/sounds/KDE_Beep_Ahem.wav is a "standard KDE sound" (22050Hz, mono, > 16bit, PCM). > > Playing sounds works very well with other apps (amarok, mpg123, etc...) > > My sound card is an Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo 2.
