Hi, german postal services provide a way to buy postal stamps online as a PDF file. The PDF contains some javascript code ensuring that you can print it exactly once. To ensure this you need to display the pdf with acroread and javascript enabled. After online-verification acroread will the stamp, i.e. submit a postscript file to the printing system. Under Linux it is pretty easy to copy that postscript file from the spool, thus the copy protection is completely ineffective. However: This postscript file contains some encrypted code to protect against further processing. e.g. the latest debian ghostscript package denies to process the file, you cannot run it through ps2pdf without severe modification. But that's exactly the problem: cups/foomatic runs the submitted postscript file through ghostscript, even if the print itself is able to process postscript. I have a HP LaserJet 1320. cups/foomatic is unable to print the file because the foomatic/ghostscript step always fails. I can print the file only if I send it to the printer directly (e.g. with ptal-print). I will not attach the file to this bug report, since the file is confidential not not to be published.
