Jack,
When you mentioned that you successfully compiled Lucene's CVS Head
with the CVS Head of Ant, you weren't referring to doing that with
kaffe, were you? I attempted to manually invoke kaffe's rmic in the
current Debian package of kaffe and it fails. According to Dalibor
Topic of the Kaffe team, this is a known issue that is yet to be
rectified, having to do with cp-tools. The manual compilation statement
and the resultant output is shown below.
