hi this is not a bug in MPlayer, this is a bug in libtheora.
It was reported as bug http://bugs.debian.org/383793 , and there is a patch there; it is now part of the upstream code, since libtheora 1.0~beta1 (according to http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/libt/libtheora/current/changelog ). I compiled libtheora 1.0~beta2-1 in a Debian/etch/amd64 environment, and installed it, and the bug disappears.
