Thanks for your report.

I agree with this bug report, unfortunately it is hard to fix, because
the selection is automatically set when a GtkTreeView is focused.

For the record, this is tracked in [1]. Unless this bug, or at least [2]
is fixed, I don't see a way to fix the problem (but would be happy to be
proved wrong).
