Package: docbook-xsl
Version: 1.73.2.dfsg.1-2
Severity: wishlist

There are two versions of the docbook-xsl sheets: the namespace-supporting sheets (which add a namespace if one is not found), and the namespace-removing sheets (which remove a namespace if one is found). Currently, the latter is packaged. This is a request to package the former, at least one DocBook 5 is released (which it might be on November 7).

The namespace-supporting sheets will work better with a combination of DocBook 5 and xsltproc, since libxslt1.1 does not support adding an xml:base attribute to a node set root element[0]. The current sheets produce the following result:

Note: namesp. cut : stripped namespace before processing An Orange in Flight
WARNING: cannot add @xml:base to node set root element. Relative paths may
not work.
Note: namesp. cut : processing stripped document An Orange in Flight

The downside is that using xsltproc with DocBook 4 files will probably produce a similar message with the namespace-supporting sheets, which is why I suggested that you wait until DocBook 5 is released.

If you think this should be another source package instead, either retitle it to an RFP, or tell me to, and I'll be happy to do so.

Thank you.

[0] I have looked into fixing this, and it is non-trivial without breaking the ABI.
