Hm, that is a problem. I don’t know of any single patch. xfce4-terminal and gnome-terminal have options like --hide-menubar or --hide-borders. Music players like audacious, beep-media-player or xmms can be configured to be sticky.

Maybe you can look at the package devilspie, which lets you perform actions on windows (resizing, moving, pinning). I’m using devilspie for now, but for some reason it does not always work as expected.
