The configure.in you attached has insufficient quoting. Please read the section titled "M4 Quotation" in the Autoconf manual, fix the quoting problems in the script, and then reopen the bug if that is insufficient.
Well, I just assumed that autoconf would give me warnings or errors if I make mistakes, but it didn't...
