My apologies, I marked it as grave on mplayer, and no one complained, so I assumed it met the criteria. I'm sorry about the error.
Did you try to play audiofiles with xmms or whatever is your favourit? Mine is moc ;) If you only upgraded the kernel it should be a kernel issue then?
I tried using xmms to play a few different files. Same problem as the other applications; it stopped responding.
I though alsa was the part of the kernel that provided sound. Should this be re-filed with kernel-source,
or some similar package?
Please send output from: $ cat /etc/modules
# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time. # # This file contains the names of kernel modules that should be loaded # at boot time, one per line. Lines beginning with "#" are ignored. apm_emu loop sbp2 snd_powermac snd_pcm_oss
$ lsmod | grep snd
Here's the output from lsmod when sound isn't working: snd_powermac 48704 3 snd_aoa_i2sbus 24388 0 snd_pcm_oss 52480 0 snd_mixer_oss 20384 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_pcm 92324 4 snd_powermac,snd_aoa_i2sbus,snd_pcm_oss snd_timer 26084 2 snd_pcm snd_page_alloc 11272 1 snd_pcm snd 67476 10 snd_powermac,snd_aoa_i2sbus,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer soundcore 8900 1 snd snd_aoa_soundbus 7908 1 snd_aoa_i2sbus Here's the output when sound is working (after force reload): snd_aoa_i2sbus 24388 0 snd_aoa_soundbus 7908 1 snd_aoa_i2sbus snd_powermac 48704 1 snd_pcm_oss 52480 0 snd_mixer_oss 20384 1 snd_pcm_oss snd_pcm 92324 3 snd_aoa_i2sbus,snd_powermac,snd_pcm_oss snd_timer 26084 1 snd_pcm snd 67476 8 snd_aoa_i2sbus,snd_powermac,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer soundcore 8900 1 snd snd_page_alloc 11272 1 snd_pcm
