On a hunch I updated to the following:
[EMAIL PROTECTED](/Sjø/FLAC)$ dpkg -l |grep pidg
ii pidgin 2.2.1-1
  graphical multi-protocol instant messaging c
ii pidgin-data 2.2.1-1
multi-protocol instant messaging client - da
ii pidgin-encryption 3.0-1
pidgin plugin that provides transparent encr
ii pidgin-extprefs 0.7-2
extended preferences plugin for the instant
ii pidgin-musictracker 0.4.1-1
Plugin for Pidgin which displays the current

Same problem persists. Message pops up about every 10 seconds. I've
tried with both mpd and xmms leading to the same result. I've 4
different protocols running and MSN is the only one that has issues.
