I just tested your fix. The problem with the unicode character 0A5C was
already resolved. Now the character 0A571 works too.

I just had to specify the keyboard modifier key in KDE's layout applet.
Perviously, no key was configured as the 'third level chooser' in the Xkb
option in the applet configuration. I chose Menu key to be the third level
chooser and now I can put addak (ੱ), key 0A571, successfully: Menu + key B02
(x key in US keyboard) gives A571 in guru variant of in layout.

As an aside, I would like to point out that the two keyboard keys to which I
suggested the mapping of the two characters are just what I guessed should
be. I am not aware of any standard based on which the keys should be
assigned to the characters.

thanks for all your help,
->HS
